Certain classes of scripts have arisen in different times and places, usually in response to some perceived need. They may spread out to other regions and diversify, as well as evolve over time, not to mention hybridise with other scripts. The whole history of handwriting is about fluid connections and influences rather than boundaries. Here we will try to take a look at some of the more important families.
