Down the left hand side of the page is the list of councillors present at the meeting. The names and titles are mostly in Latin form, but not entirely. Thus we have Johannes, but also George, Willelmus but also Robert. The titles of the mayor and sheriffs are given in Latin, maior and Vic for Vicecomites, while the Aldermen are in English. While some of the surnames are familiar, there are some that would be very unfamilar today, and the spelling can be very different to modern versions of the name. Genealogists and family historians take note. |
