The date at the top of the page is entered in Latin. It is given as the 29th day of August in the 34th year of the aforesaid lord the king. The king was Henry VIII, which should make it 1542. The striated appearance of the background is not some technical error from the scanning process, but the natural texture of old handmade paper. |
