These examples of decorative initials are from the left hand column of the recto of the page. The initials are alternately in red and blue, the red ones having fine and elegant blue penwork decoration and the blues ones similarly adorned with red penwork. This is very much in the style of the miniature Bibles of the 13th century, as are the red and blue running headers at the top of each page. This is part of the more elegant aspect of the book production. |
