The abbreviations comprise the nomina sacra terms, which are rendered in the Latin form, and a few simple contractions in both Dutch and Latin words. It is interesting that the word for and, in medieval Dutch ende, is abbreviated as en, which is the modern word. Similar adoptions of the abbreviated forms of common words as the complete word have occurred in both English and French. You can find the other abbreviated words on the page by going through the text pages with the transcript window open. |
