Each side of the folio has one large illuminated initial with decorative elements that stretch the full length of the page text. While the design is relatively plain, the main initial is three dimensional as it has been built up with gesso before the gold leaf has been applied. Because the leaf is very worn and used, the gold leaf has worn off in patches, particularly on the verso, shown on the right hand side, revealing the gesso beneath. This is difficult to show on a digital photograph. Each verse of the Psalm begins with a simple enlarged Lombardic capital, in alternating gold and blue. |
