The names of the witnesses are entered, each with a cross to indicate the solemnity of their sworn testimony. Even if this were not a forgery, these would not have been autograph signatures, but they were entered by the scribe who wrote the document. Several of the witnesses were bishops, and their names include the standard Latinised abbreviations for the names of their sees. |
